Dear all,
is there is any way to download configurations using SNMP community ?
I have several CheckPoint firewalls that I'd like to add to NCM and was hoping that someone had already created a device template for CheckPoint. Does anyone have one our there?
NCM Newbie here - working on an existing implementation of NCM - and I can't figure out how to ignore the ever-changing wpa-passphrase line in the configuration comparisons. Every time the config is displayed this line changes and I'd like to just ignore it. Any help would be appreciated!
Eric
NCM device support is based on device command templates. NCM provides out of the box support for over 15 different vendors and 100s of different device models.
For devices not supported out of the box, NCM includes the ability to extend the default device support by creating or modifying device command templates.
To learn more, please see the NCM Admin Guide: http://www.solarwinds.net/support/orionNCM/docs/OrionNCMAdministratorGuide.pdf

I migrated our NCM installed to a new server using the existing database. When I go into the WebConsole I'm able to manage and view all the nodes, but if I open the NCM app on the server, the node list is empty. Did I mess something up in the migration?

I have seen the F5 Big IP template in the content sharing section but it does not address the following?
How do you use it? Where do you download or import it too? and how can I backup and report on changes to the following configs in by BigIP/F5's
These are all the config files I need to monitor for changes on 6 different f5's.
Where does the template go?
/defaults/config_base.conf.
/config/bigip_base.conf.
/config/bigip_sys.conf.
/usr/bin/monitors/builtins/base_monitors.conf.
/config/profile_base.conf.
/config/daemon.conf.
/config/bigip.conf.
/config/bigip_local.conf.
How do I use NCM to do this?
Help would be appreciated.
I have a group of switches that belong to a certain system. This group contains about 30 switches. I chose to download the running config of this group, and all but approx 10 downloaded fine. I am now left with a list of 10 devices, and no way to collectively edit their properties from this screen. If I am in the device manager, I can select multiple devices and edit properties, but not from the Config Management screen.
I know what the problem is, so I simply want to change the authentication method of this group of 10 failed switches, to match the ones that worked. But there seems no way to easily do this, without having to do them individually.
When listing devices in this manner, either via device manager, or config manager.. why dont I have the same options to edit the properties of multiple devices?
Thanks
Hi all,
I'm new to NCM 7.1.
I would like to backup configuration from Alvarion BU-B28 (system oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.12394.4.1.22) and BU-B100 antennas.
I try to generate a device template but the CLI is not very usual as I go through the menus only by typing number (no return key).
For example to print text config via telnet with private as RW community :
3private<CR>1S
Then closing the telnet session :
<Esc><Esc>X
The other (and simple) way to save the configuration is to use TFTP and get the private.cfg file, but I don't know where to type the filename.
Any idea to help me solve this problem?
Thanks.
Hi,
I am running NCM 8.3.125 which is working fine but I am trying to have it configured so that it can download the config from my ASA 5510. When I add the ASA manually I get a "IP Address does not respond to SNMP queries" message.
I was not involved in setting up the ASA's but I am sure it is to do with the security on the ASA that is preventing SNMP access.
snmp-server host Outside x.x.x.x poll community xxxxxx
snmp-server host MGMT x.x.x.x poll community xxxxxx
snmp-server location ????
snmp-server contact ??? ????
snmp-server community *******
snmp-server enable traps snmp authentication linkup linkdown coldstart
snmp-server enable traps syslog
snmp-server enable traps ipsec start stop
snmp-server enable traps entity config-change fru-insert fru-remove
snmp-server enable traps remote-access session-threshold-exceeded
The asa config is as above. Any advice would be much appreciate.
Thanks.
Hello all,
I am new to NCM, and I have one question for which I can't seem to find answer in documentation. Can anyone explain me configuration retrieval process when SNMP/TFTP is used. I was under impression it is possible to retrieve (download) Cisco switch configuration by reading it using SNMP RO string and transfering it using TFTP to TFTP server that is up and running on SolarWinds NCM server. Now that I've written it like this, I am not really sure it is possible. What is the correct procedure and is there a way to keep network environment more secure by not enabling RW access from SolarWinds NCP server (and still being able to get config)?
Thanks, MSM
Hello,
I am new and starting to use this program. I installed NCM v7. I was able to run the discovery and find most of the devices with our SNMP strings.
However I cannot poll a couple of CISCO ASA firewalls that we have on the network.
I am using the right community strings, SNMPv2 and port.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hello,
I work for a company that provides IT consulting and management for a wide array of customers. This includes, servers, and network equipment. The challenge we are faced with now, is coming up with a scalable way to backup all the network equipment of our customers. This consits of a wide selection of equipment from various vendors, Cisco, Fortigate, HP, Bluecoat, Juniper, Checkpoint you name it.
Currently we are using Kiwi CAT tools but this means that we have to have direct access from the server runnnig cat tools to every network equipment. The way we have it setup right now, is that we have VPNs established from our firewall, to the firewall in the HQ of the customers, which vary widely in their size. Some just have one building, some span multiple continents and have thousands of employees. However we don't have direct reachability to the nether regions of each customers MPLS , and building them and proper firewall rules and maintaining them promises to be a despicable task, especially so when you have to take into account the massive ammounts of NAT trickery needed to deal with the issue of overlapping subnets. Indeed some remote offices have just an lowly internet connection with a DHCP issued public address and we use IPSEC tunnels to connect these. So I wanted to know if there is a tool, that has a central management point, and then agents installed into each customer's infrastructure, that backup the devices in that customer's network, and then report to the central console. Reachability between all hosts is not a problem to arrange within just one network.
For example this is how Microsoft's SCOM works, there are central management servers, and gateways in each network. The gateways gather the information from the agents running on the servers and then report back to the management console. In this way we would be using the agents as a stepping stone and our task would be significantly reduced.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys.
I'm new with solarwinds. We have NPM and I need to add some linux servers, runing centos, redhat and debian squeze and maybe later suse.
I know a little about snmp,I've reading about installing and configuring in linux. But I have some doubts.
I'm using net-snmp in debian. I added a device running debian but cannot get any information about disk usage,memory,number of cpu, I can see / , swap , listed but there is not any info about.
I'm using the search option in the forum but many info I find is very old.
any steps or what else should I do to monitor the linux boxes?
in the process of adding the device I can test the device and after that it list what I want to monitor, like interfaces, volumes.. but after the device is added I cant see any information.
If I run:
snmptable -v2c -c xxxxxxx -Cb localhost HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageTable
SNMP table: HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageTable
Index Type Descr AllocationUnits Size Used AllocationFailures
1 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageRam Physical memory 1024 Bytes 3271764 160736 ?
3 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageVirtualMemory Virtual memory 1024 Bytes 4176200 160736 ?
6 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageOther Memory buffers 1024 Bytes 5271764 13084 ?
7 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageOther Cached memory 1024 Bytes 64612 64612 ?
10 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageVirtualMemory Swap space 1024 Bytes 3904436 0 ?
31 HOST-RESOURCES-TYPES::hrStorageFixedDisk / 4096 Bytes 19192802 232560 ?
So, I can consult the information.. but why the solarwind cant get it?
thanks
I could use some help with creating a regular expression that the config change report ignores during it's comparison. Basically, I have Cirrus comparing the most recent config downloaded with the latest baseline. The problem is that the running configuration of my cisco devices has the crypto key listed in the config, and in the startup, the crypto key doesn't exist. I would like to exclude this section from even being compared, but my regular expression knowledge is severely lacking. I'm guessing there is a way for me to exclude the following:

In case you missed the latest post on the Product Blog forum, NCM 7.2 is going to reach beta soon. If you are interested, please fill out this survey and you will be sent the download links for the Beta.
Betas are only available for existing customers of that product and cannot be upgraded to future versions.
If you have installed the beta and have feedback or questions, this is the best place to ask them!
I am looking for the IOS upgrade feature of Cirrus and have not been able to find it. Any help please.
I've captured the configs on about 500 routers, but on about 10 of them, I get the following error in config download every time:
Connectivity issues, discarding configuration (or configuration is too short)
How do I troubleshoot this? I can login manually, and do a show configuration without a problem.
All routers should have identical configuration and IOS version.
Hi,
I would like to know that how to enable Thwach activation in Solar Winds applications like NCM. In each Application Summary Page there is
option for Thwach messages.
Please suggest how to activate this especially in NCM summary page?
Thanks,
I'm configuring NCM's Global Device Defaults and came across with the possibility of choosing 3 different protocols for the following actions.
Can someone tell me what does Config Request really mean?
Since it is the only action that supports SNMP, I'm guessing that by seting a RO community it gets the configuration from the device, and leaves it ready to transfer using FTP or other.
Is that correct?
I'm new to the forum, and it would be really helpful if someone could tell me where can I find some documentation about NCM, like an advanced user guide or official SolarWinds documentation.
Thanks in advanced
Hi Members,
I need information on one the feature of NCM. We do the Inventory in NCM but inventory generated by Solar Winds for Cisco stack switches gives details
of only one switch in the stack. That Switch is Master in that stack. We need to get detail of all the switches in the stack.
Your assistance will be highly appreciated and warm welcome.
Thanks,
