Hi,

I'm quite new to NCM and I was asked to setup configuration backup for Check Point R75.40. Has anyone done this before and can help me understand how to do this?

Thanks.

Anyone know how to configure the saved job result to NOT overwrite the previously saved job result file??? Looking to schedule this and not have to manually edit the NCM job every day to manually change the saved job log file name.

Thank ya!

Inventory customization

Is it possible to customize the inventory collection?

To add new things:

It seems as if this is driven through templates in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\Inventory one for the collection, and another for the display

Specifically I'd like to collect the LLDP information (we don't run CDP), but I can't find documentation on this.

To not inventory certain things on certain nodes:

Some of our routers are gigaPOP routers with a couple of hundred BGP peers and well over half a million entries in their routing tables.... I don't really want to collect the routing tables from them. But others of our routers support the campus and I would like to get a snapshot of their tables.

Thanks

Connection Refused : Problem with NCM downloading Juniper configs

$

Hi,

I have problems downloading Juniper config files. It seems this a common issue with downloading config files using SSH. The configuration looks fine (SSH auto, no enable) but whenever I try to download it says connection refused. I searched everywhere but I could not find any answer. I wonder if someone from solarwinds can answer this question.

Rayan

Whats wrong with the config templates

I have downloaded a few of the config change templates and they are imported in what looks like corrupt.  There are special characters where I am guessing txt should be.

NCM password change script

I have created a few scripts to change passwords in NX-OS and IOS. The issue is I don't want to have to search through the device list for NX-OS devices and IOS devices when running each script. Is there a way when executing a script to filter by OS version or a way within the script to check for OS version then proceed if its IOS/NX-OS or exit if its not?

Password Change for NX-OS

How are others doing password change with nx-os? We have a requirement that the hash string is the exact same on all devices so that an audit can be conducted to make sure all passwords match. The issue with the script process when you plug in a password in clear text for the "define variable" piece, all the hash strings will be different on all devices. We also want to be able to automate this process every 90 days. Please share your thoughts.

No Change Detected - Discarded Config

I couldn't figure out why when I was making changes to the config of a switch. I wasn't being informed about it...

I then found the above message in NCM Events, but cant understand why.

Im clearly making some significant changes to the config, yet it is telling me there are none....

Why would it be doing this?

Cheers

Hi,

I need a report that shows active clients in a given period of time and on a given WLC

ex.

start 2014-08-08 08:00:00

end 2014-08-08 12:00:00

WLC01

I have this report sql string to start with:

SELECT

    TOP 25

    rc.Client_MAC AS MAC_Address,

    rc.NodeID as NodeID,

    rc.Client_Name AS Name,

    AVG((rc.TotalBytesRxPerSec + rc.TotalBytesTxPerSec)) AS AVERAGE_of_Avg_Bps_Rx_Tx,

    AVG(rc.TotalBytesRxPerSec) AS AVERAGE_of_Avg_Bps_Rx,

    AVG(rc.TotalBytesTxPerSec) AS AVERAGE_of_Avg_Bps_Tx,

    SUM((rc.TotalBytesRxDiff + rc.TotalBytesTxDiff)) AS SUM_of_Total_Bytes_Rx_Tx,

    SUM(rc.TotalBytesRxDiff) AS SUM_of_Total_Bytes_Rx,

    SUM(rc.TotalBytesTxDiff) AS SUM_of_Total_Bytes_Tx

FROM NPM_NV_WL_REPORT_CLIENTS_V rc

INNER JOIN Nodes on Nodes.NodeID = rc.NodeID

WHERE

( rc.DateTime BETWEEN '2014/08/08 08:00:00' and '2014/08/08 12:00:00' )

GROUP BY rc.Client_MAC, rc.Client_Name, rc.NodeID

ORDER BY 6 DESC

I then need to specify the wlc...

Can anyone help ?

making SolarWinds monitored node status available to other systems

Does anyone publish or export status of down devices to external systems?  If so, what does your solution look like?

We had a working system that must now be redesigned due to a combination of NCM 7.3 upgrade and SSL handshake issues with Linux server that retrieves an NCM report via curl command (separate website bound to another TCP port in IIS).  The NCM 7.3 upgrade made the NCM report show only devices down that were assigned to that particular poller.  Easy enough to fix, and I ended up recreating this on my additional poller and as long as both reports were retrieved, my issue was a done deal.  Since that time though, a new SSL certificate has been installed on our SolarWinds servers and the curl command fails on the SSL handshake with our pollers.

As there's more than one way to skin a cat, I tried to make a report schedule that saved this report on a filesystem.  Although not ideal as it executes only once per day instead of every few minutes like I would need to provide semi-realtime information, I planned to fight that in Windows Task Scheduler once SolarWinds Report Scheduler made the job.  The issue I'm fighting there is permissions-related.  The service accounts I'm trying to use so far have been unable to authenticate or make reports on my SolarWinds server or the network shares I've tried.  Potentially that requires logon as batch for this account.  A local account on my SolarWinds sever was created for this purpose  and has been unable to work in the report scheduler dialog.

I am also considering a batch file that uses pscp and PKI as I already move configs to a Linux server this way.  Arguably I would hit the same dilemma where the Linux server is not able to complete SSL handshake with SolarWinds pollers.  And I still have to make the down nodes information a file on the filesystem.

I've tried using the DirectLink account solution, although this has not worked.  I've considered an alert with an action executed every minute or two--that action being an HTTP post.  As this information is already presented to external customers, the lack of encryption was not a concern.

While I ponder which of these solutions is least painful to remedy, I thought I would pose the question to the federal sector folks.  Does anyone else make SolarWinds information available to external customers with no AD access?  As they say, security isn't supposed to be convenient.

Is it possible to use node variables in policy rule string patterns?

For instance, can I create a rule within string pattern matching like 'Config file must contain string "Hostname=${NodeCaption}" ?

'Execute Script' Jobs Stuck On "Cancelling"

$

Morning all, I was pushing out an IOS update to a load of switches this morning using the Configuration Management/Execute Script functionality of NCM when the Solarwinds Information Service seemed to crash on the server running NCM. Although the script ran okay on all the switches (I manually logged into each of them to check) the jobs appeared to keep running in the web interface. I clicked the blue X 'Cancel' button and all the jobs are now stuck on "Cancelling".

I've already tried restarting all the Orion services on the machine and even rebooting the machine but the jobs' status persists between reboots.

Any idea how I can get rid of them?

Whats everyone out there doing with NCM and F5? Anyone have scripts they can share to pull out big-ip conf files for backup? Or change local password scripts?

Need some help with adding nodes.

So I am new to SolarWinds anything I know is self taught so I am still figuring things out. I have added several nodes across a few networks and they are up and running fine but I have one router that i just can't get it to work properly and SolarWinds cannot access it. I have configured SNMP group and user with password correctly ( the same was done for others and they work just fine ) I can ping the router and traffic is flowing in and out the network. What else can i troubleshoot to make this work. I do apologize if the question is vague English is a second language and I have to be careful what info I put up about my network any ideas?

Remove Imported_From_NCM?

Does anyone know if removing the custom property Imported_From_NCM will break anything?

All of our values are listed as false and all nodes are synchronized - does this field need to still exist?

Thanks,

Cisco SNMP trap for Realtime Change Detection

$

I am working on getting RTCD working. I have my cisco devices configured to send SNMP traps:

snmp-server enable traps config

However, a trap is sent when a user enters config mode, not if they actually change anything or when they exit config mode. This is useless since none of the changes are downloaded. Is it possible to use SNMP to send a trap when the config is changed? It seems syslog will log an entry when it's changed, but I'd rather rely on SNMP.

Connectivity issues, discarding configuration (or configuration is too short) NCM 7.1

I've captured the configs on about 500 routers, but on about 10 of them, I get the following error in config download every time:

Connectivity issues, discarding configuration (or configuration is too short)

How do I troubleshoot this?  I can login manually, and do a show configuration without a problem.

All routers should have identical configuration and IOS version.

Does NCM support the Cisco Virtual Wireless Controller

We are having some trouble with NCM jobs that run on the existing hardware WLCs (using WISM templates) not working on a new vWLC.  Anyone else out there blazing this trail with Cisco Virtual Controllers?

Baselining questions

$

We just imported a group of UPS configs manually (drag & drop method) using the NCM Manager on the NCM server.  I notice the config for each node is not visible in NCM resources like Last 5 Configurations and Recent Configurations, probably others. Is this a known issue or do I need to perform a Set Baseline Setting for each config?

With that said, I notice if I do a Set Baseline Setting on a config imported manually, the config is then visible in NCM resources like Last 5 Configurations and Recent Configurations.

Finally, is there a way to baseline mark a select group of configs with a NCM job or script without having to do one node config at a time or run the Baseline Entire Network job?   The Baseline Entire Network job does not give you the ability to select nodes.  Can this be done through a SQL query by just setting/checking the Baseline column in the ConfigArchive table?

We are running 7.2.2
