Maintain configs of retired devices

$

I did some cursory searches for this and haven't had any luck. I'm trying to find out how I can keep backups of device configs in NCM when they're deleted in NPM.

Perhaps a broader question is, how does everyone else handle retiring devices in Orion?

Delete the device? Unmanage it for extended times?

or...?

How do I get templates to access my SCP.

I run in the template for upgrading the IOS, but no change on the switch and the SCP server does not show any transfer at all.

Can anyone help with the below message. Server has been running for 2 years, got rebooted and now it doesn't work. I opened a case with SW but I am getting replies outside my timezone so it's on response a day.  I need this working again.

Download configs from Cisco and Juniper switches configured with SSH

We are doing a switch refresh.  Our old Cisco and Juniper switches had telnet only enabled.  The new switch stacks are only accessible through SSH and now we are unable to download configurations to our Orion database.

Is there a way we can configure Orion to do SSH and telnet?

thank you

SSH Key refresh

I need to know if there is a way to refresh the SSH key within NCM.  I have a few devices that are getting connection refused when trying to execute a script using SSH.  I am able to SSH directly to the devices from putty with out issues.

Using the test function under the edit node for NCM fails.  If I un-manage the device with NCM save it, then re-manage the device in NCM it corrects this.  I assume that NCM has some sort of cache where the SSH keys are, if so can this be cleared to force it to update?  Or will I have to unmanaged all devices with issue and re-add to get them to work?

Thanks

Report Writer - Unable to retrieve url

I have three Solarwinds servers in three different locations. I'm having difficulty with two of three.

The issue I'm having is with one of the "canned" reports when I run the Current IOS Reports, the email it sends has one attached file (a PDF) and an error saying it cannot download the URL (CSV type).

(IOS Report Monday, April 11, 2016 Unable to retrieve url: http://ATL001NPM001:80/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=236 using CSV type)

The other server will not attach the reports all together... I see two errors for both files that should be attached.

I've run through the knowledge base with little to no luck. I've tried several "fixes" but don't seem to have found the right one.

NPM 11.5.2

Thanks in advance

What is the difference between Admin Status and Operational Status

$

When I look at the "Interface Details" of one of my devices in NCM, I see that the "Admin Status" is up on my ppp interface while the "Status" (Operational Status) is down.  What is the difference between these fields?  My device is on a cellular network and the only way to communicate with the device is over the ppp interface.  I have a customer who is using NPM and is basically seeing the same "down" value when they view their node dashboard and the ppp interface.

Cisco SNMP trap for Realtime Change Detection

I am working on getting RTCD working. I have my cisco devices configured to send SNMP traps:

snmp-server enable traps config

However, a trap is sent when a user enters config mode, not if they actually change anything or when they exit config mode. This is useless since none of the changes are downloaded. Is it possible to use SNMP to send a trap when the config is changed? It seems syslog will log an entry when it's changed, but I'd rather rely on SNMP.

Cisco IOS Upload via SCP/SFTP Server Integrated in Solarwinds NCM

Hi,

I have got some issues when I am trying to update my switch firmware through SCP/SFTP Server which is integrated on Solarwinds Network configuration Manager.

SSH is allowed between Solarwinds Server and Cisco devices. If you faced the same problem please guide me how can we solve this issue ?

I have enabled the SCP server and created one <user > without any password.

Copied the IOS image on X:/sftproot - Solarwinds Server.

Start SFTP server on Solarwinds Server.

Execute Command on switch  :

Router1#copy scp: flash:
Address or name of remote host []? 10.x.x.x
Source username [user1]? user
Source filename []? image_filename.bin
Destination filename [image_filename.bin]?

%Error opening scp://user@10.x.x.x/image_filename.bin (Undefined error)

Real-Time Change Detection with Cisco SG300

Hi,

I would like to save real-time configuration changes of our Cisco SG300.

With our Cisco 3750X I can do this. They send syslog messages "1117290: 1117291:   Configured from console by admin on vty10 (...)" and NCM react with saving of config.

The SG300 sends syslog message "1 2016-04-13T15:26:26+01:00 SW-IT-ACC-1 COPY - FILECPY - Files Copy - source URL running-config destination URL flash://startup-config, aggregated (1)" and NCM doesn't save the config. Where can I configure how NCM reacts to a which kind of syslog message?

Thanks,

NCM script

Hi All,

I would like to check in all Cisco routers, list of IOS has been copied in Flash.  So logic would be to scan "dir" output, and check for any text starts with "c2900-universalk9" and ends with ".bin", then print it against the hostname.

Could anyone help me out with the script ?

Where does NCM store its connection profile information?

$

I've inherited a Solarwinds instance and it has an NCM connection profile which logs into various devices to pull configurations every night.  We have started working with a new vendor which requires us to make a new profile (this one requires an enable password, the other does not).  I would like to re-use the same NCM user/pass info, but I don't have the password.

So my question is, where is this information stored?

I have RDP access to the Solarwinds server, and can look around the database if need be.  Is there somewhere I can scrape the original password from, or am I going to have to have someone reset it?

NCM Nightly Config Report Errors - Connection Refused

$

Hello folks- we are trying to get our nightly config backup working, but we're running into some difficulties. We're running NCM v7.4.1. In the report, the three main problems we're getting back seem to be:

   ERROR: Cannot download Startup config : Cannot Log into Device : bad password.

   ERROR: Cannot download Running config : Connection Refused

   ERROR: Cannot download Running config : Connectivity issues, discarding configuration (or configuration is too short).

The main problem seems to be the connection being refused. We have two NCM profiles, Telnet & SSH- both of which have the same login credentials. I can log on to the switches just fine from Putty using the same credentials in the NCM profiles, and if I go to the node page in SolarWinds I'm able to download both the running and startup configs no issue... We have around 800+ switches managed, and on the report from last night we're getting about 300 back with errors. I've been searching around and it seems there's a lot of people with this problem but not a very specific solution... Could it just be trying to download too many configs at once? If that might be the case it would make sense to me to have different network areas run the config backup at seperate times to avoid congestion. Does anyone have any suggestions on what route I should take? I can provide additional details/screenshots as well. Thanks in advance

Here's a screenshot of our config settings:

Nightly Config Backups using SSH inconsistent

I have 28 HP Switches all flavors of HP 2540-24G, 2530-48G, 2530-8G

Firmware ranges: 15.17, 15.18, 16.01

NCM Connection: SSH Auto

Communication: Auto Determine

Result: 8/28 fail

NCM Connection: SSHv1

Communication: Auto Determine

Result: All fail

NCM Connection: SSHv2

Communication: Auto Determine

Result: 4/28 fail

NCM Connection: SSHv2

Communication: Solarwinds HP Switch

Result: All fail

NCM Connection: Telnet

Communication: Auto Determine

Result: All complete

Current Solarwinds NCM Protocol Settings

On the HP Switches

SSH server: Enable

SSH version : 2

SSH authentication-timeout : 120 second(s)

SSH server key generating interval : n/a

SSH authentication retries : 3 time(s)

SFTP server: Disable

SFTP server Idle-Timeout: 0 minutes(s)

The E-Mail Reports back "ERROR: Cannot download Running config : Connection Refused... " on the HP Switches. Each job ran is inconsistent with successful and failed devices.  If I manually grab the running and startup configs via NCM, that too is hit and miss on getting this error. It works "most of the time"; How come not all the time?

So basically, going to SSH as the protocol to get config backups through Solarwinds is a failure. Above is just examples of multiple combinations I've used to try and get SSH to work consistently to get config backups. I've changed the Solarwinds NCM settings and still the same inconsistent results. I'm going to open a Solarwinds ticket as well, but I'd thought I'd ask the TWACK community as well.

Has anyone gotten a scheduled Solarwinds job to pull running and/or startup configs from HP Switches successfully and consistently? If so, what models and firmware? If so, how is your configuration? Any guidance besides "Open a ticket" would be appreciated.

Firmware Vulnerability data files URLs don't function, new ones I think require product update

$

Was noticing that no new recent vulnerabilities are showing up in NCM, so I went to check things out.

In my Firmware Vulnerability Settings page, I'm getting the following errors -

URL "http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-recent.xml" is currently inaccessible.

URL "http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-modified.xml" is currently inaccessible.

If you go to those URL's it says that "Effective October 16, 2015 the XML data feeds will no longer be available for download in an uncompressed format.

You have reached this page because you have a process that links directly to a file that no longer exists.  Please modify your process to use the compressed format as described on the main NVD Datafeeds landing page."

If you go to the NVD Datafeeds landing page (NVD - Data Feeds), there are links to the compressed version of the two files above in either GZIP or ZIP format

http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-Modified.xml.gz

http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-Modified.xml.zip

http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-Recent.xml.gz

http://static.nvd.nist.gov/feeds/xml/cve/nvdcve-2.0-Recent.xml.zip

Its fairly easy to unzip them and drop them in to the correct directory, which is shown in the Settings page, but I thought maybe a product update to fix this is in order?

Upgrade IOS using NCM?

Hello

We have over 500 switches which need an IOS upgrade and doing this one by one is going to take an age.

Is there any way we could use NCM to automate the upgrade?

Hello

I am looking to create a custom report for a 30 days period, the report needs to show me just all the nodes names and the dates of when it was last changed, I do not care about what was changed in this report just the date and that it was changed. I am also looking to export this report to excel, can someone please point me in right direction.

F5 and NCM backup

Hi All

Please help

My aim is to back up configs on our GTM/LTM F5. I have pretty much used all the templates I can see on this forum e.e F5 BIG IP-1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.ConfigMgmt-Commands and I get the error

.Validation Failed: An error occurred during script parsing. Position: Line 1, Character 3 Error message: mismatched character '-' expecting '=' Please check script syntax.

We are running Licensed Version         11.4.1 on the F5. I am not too familiar with F5. I do the following

......(tmos) # show running-config

Display all 235 items? (y/n) y

I have used the template assistant and have entered "y" in the RegEx, which i think it does accept but then comes back with "Unable to get Config  Text". I have looked at the templates on here and really not too clear about some of the lines e.g. "  <Command Name="EraseConfig" Value="write erase${CRLF}Yes"/>". Luckily it never went past the error above. I did remove the lines i did not think i will need and now left with the below:

<!--SolarWinds Network Management Tools-->

<!--Copyright 2007 SolarWinds.Net All rights reserved-->

<!--Modified 12/02/2011-->

<Configuration-Management Device="BIGIP F5 LTM" SystemOID=" 1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1.3.4">

    <Commands>

        <Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value="show running-config all-properties"/>

        <Command Name="PostCommand" Value="${ENTER}"/>

        <Command Name="PostCommand" Value="y"/>

    </Commands>

</Configuration-Management>

Not sure if "PostCommand" is valid.

When I log in I get this as my prompt

name@(device)(cfg-sync In Sync)(Active)(/Common)(tmos)#

Please help. I just need to back up the configs on the F5 like I do for the Cisco.

Thanks
